With more and more countries affected by the global COVID-19 coronavirus epidemic, numerous esports events and tournaments have been postponed or canceled outright.

Bandai Namco decided to withdraw support from all its remaining physical tournaments for the year. Affected events include the Tekken 7, Soulcalibur VI, and Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tours. Instead, the company is finalizing online competition event solutions for the remainder of the year.


Arena of Valor World Cup 2020

The Arena of Valor World Cup (AWC) 2020 has been canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. AWC 2020 would have been the third edition of the yearly event, organized by Garena and Tencent.


Capcom Pro Tour 2020

Capcom has decided to scrap all live Street Fighter V: Champion Edition events including premiers, ranking tournaments, and World Warrior events for the 2020 season, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, the company will be hosting 18 online regional tournaments with the winners of each tournament advances to this year’s Capcom Cup. The Capcom Cup Tour Online kicks off on June 6, and will run up until November 22.

Capcom has also decided to move the date and location of the Capcom Cup 2020. The tournament was originally scheduled to take place in Paris in December this year, but will now be held in the first quarter of 2021 in the United States.


Evo 2020 online

With this year’s Evo 2020 canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event organizers have decided to move forward with a new online format they’re calling Evo Online. Evo Online will take place over five straight weekends from July 4 to August 2.


ESL One Birmingham 2020 online leagues

ESL has announced that this year’s ESL One Birmingham 2020 event has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in its place, ESL will run four online regional leagues instead. The leagues will be in Europe/CIS, China, North America, and Southeast Asia running from May to June with a total prize pool of US$335,000 split across all regions.


Ubisoft Forward

Ubisoft has announced Ubisoft Forward, an “E3-style showcase” event taking place on July 12. The company was scheduled to have its own press conference during this year’s E3 before the event was canceled.


Tokyo Game Show 2020

This year’s Tokyo Game Show has been canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The event was scheduled to take place September 24-27 at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. Instead, many Japanese game publishers have decided to join this year’s New Game+ Expo scheduled for June 23.


Summer Game Fest

The Summer Game Fest will act as somewhat of an online replacement event for this year’s canceled E3. Veteran video games journalist and long-time E3 host, Geoff Keighley is one of the masterminds behind the event. He will also be hosting most of the upcoming announcements for Summer Game Fest.


East Coast Throwdown 2020

East Coast Throwdown 2020 has officially been canceled in direct response to the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. ECT tournament organizers are now focused on hosting next year’s event, which is already set to take place on September 3-5, 2021.


Fortnite World Cup 2020

The Fortnite World Cup (FWC) will not be happening this year. Instead, Epic Games will continue with their online Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS).


EVO 2020

Evo has announced that this year’s event, scheduled to take place from July 31 to August 2 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, is officially canceled. The tournament organizers also mentioned that they’re working on an online event for this summer to take Evo 2020’s place.


The International 2020

Valve has announced that The International 2020 (TI10) will be delayed indefinitely. TI10 was originally scheduled to be held from August 18-23 in Stockholm, Sweden.

With TI10 being delayed, Valve added that it is also working on restructuring the DPC, which has been suspended indefinitely by the coronavirus pandemic.


CEO 2020

CEO has been rescheduled to take place in December. CEO 2020’s tentative dates are December 11-13, but the tournament organizers will be announcing more details in the near future.


PUBG 2020 Global Series

The PUBG 2020 Global Series has been canceled. The PUBG Global Series (PSG) was supposed to be held in Berlin, Germany from March 31 to April 12.

Instead, the regional PUBG Continental Series (PCS) will be taking its place. The PCS will include four regions — Asia, Asia Pacific, Europe, and North America — with a US$2.4 million prize pool distributed across multiple events scheduled for May, June, and August.


Gamescom 2020

Gamescom 2020 will now take place digitally. The online gaming convention is still scheduled to take place on August 25 to 29.


Tekken World Tour 2020

Bandai Namco had decided to remove nine events from its Tekken 7 World Tour circuit. The company is aiming to start its tournament series in July.


Combo Breaker 2020

Combo Breaker 2020 was scheduled to take place on May 22-24 at the Schaumburg Renaissance Marriott in Illinois, USA. But, the event has been canceled due to growing COVID-19 health concerns.


2020 Capcom Pro Tour season

Capcom has pulled its support of all events CPT tournaments from March to early July. This includes the entire first half of the 2020 CPT season.


Street Fighter League Season 3

Capcom’s upcoming Street Fighter League Season 3 will be postponed until August due to the new health and government guidelines regarding the COVID-19 coronavirus.


LEC Spring Split

After the LEC Spring SPlit was suspended due to COVID-19, the tournament continued with online matches that started on March 20.


MPL SG/MY Season 5

After the MPL SG/MY concluded week three of their competition, the tournament has been put on hold while countries placed restrictions on nationwide movements that started on March 18.


Dota PIT Minor and EPICENTER Major

The OGA Dota PIT Minor 2020 was originally set to take place on April 23-26 in Split, Croatia, while the EPICENTER Major was scheduled for May 2-19 in Moscow, Russia. But now, both events have been canceled by Valve.


Taipei Major 2020

The Taipei Major has been completely canceled this year. The tournament will return next year instead.


ESL One Los Angeles Major

The ESL One Los Angeles Major was originally scheduled on March 15-22 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. But, with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the event has been postponed.


The Mixup

NBA 2K League

The NBA 2K League was set to tip-off on March 24 has been postponed.


Fighter’s Spirit 2020

Fighter’s Spirit was set to take place in South Korea on April 4-5. But, due to growing health concerns, the Street Fighter V: Champion Edition tournament has been moved to July.


LCS Spring Split

The LCS Spring Split was first set to continue without a live studio audience but has shifted to having all their matches played online.


ESL Pro League Season 11

The ESL Pro League was set to host 24 of the best Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams from March 16 to April 14. The European region was set to play in Malta, Europe, while the American region would have had their matches in Denver, Colorado.


NorCal Regionals 2020

The NorCal Regionals was originally set to take place on April 10-12 in San Jose, California. But, due to Santa Clara Country’s direct order “to cancel mass gatherings” due to increasing rates of COVID-19 reports,” the event has been canceled.


League of Legends’ Mid-Season Invitational

Riot Games’ Mid-Season Invitational scheduled for May has been pushed back to July.


Tekken World Tour

Bandai Namco has pulled their involvement with NorCal Regionals and The Mixup.


WESG APAC Finals

The event was set to take place in Malaysia on January 3-5 but was moved to Macau on February 16-18 instead. The WESG 2019-2020 global event featured competitions in Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), Starcraft II, and Pro Evolution Soccer 2020.


Acer APAC Predator League

The event was set to take place in the Philippines on February 19-23 but has been rescheduled to June or July this year. The tournament was going to host 12 Dota 2 teams from all over Southeast Asia, with 11 qualifyings from different countries and one direct invite going to TNC Predator.


China’s League of Legends Pro League

The LPL was set to take place in China on March 9-15 but was postponed. China’s LPL Spring Split games are now set to be played online.


Capcom Pro Tour

The first three events of the CPT were removed from the circuit:

The Brussels Challenge 2020 was set to take place in Brussels, Belgium on March 20-22, but has been canceled. Meanwhile, both NorCal Regionals and April Annihilation are set to continue on April 10, but will not award CPT points.



SNK World Championship Japan Tour Final

The tournament was set to take place in Comyufa eSports Stadium in Nagoya, Tokyo from February 29 to March 1. While the SNK World Championship Grand Final which was set on March 28-29 have both been postponed.

The tournament would have showcased Samurai Shodown and King of Fighters XIV and had a prize pool of ¥10M (US$94,000).


ESL One Los Angeles Major Chinese Qualifiers

The Chinese Qualifiers for the Los Angeles Major were postponed, but were eventually played on February 12.


PUBG Global Series

The event was set to take place on Messe, Berlin from March 31 to April 12 but has been postponed indefinitely.

The event would have hosted 32 of the best PUBG teams from around the world, competing for a US$500,000 prize pool.


Overwatch League

All Overwatch League matches scheduled to be played in South Korea have been postponed.

This includes the Seoul Dynasty’s March homestand, and the Shanghai Dragons Homestand that was originally postponed in January, and then rescheduled to take place in South Korea next month.


League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational

The Mid-Seasonal Invitational usually takes place in May but has been postponed until later in the year.


League of Legends Championship Korea

While the LCK Spring Split has not been postponed, all matches are currently being played without a live audience. Additionally, all media activity related to the LCK has been canceled.


Rocket League Regional Championships

The game’s Season 9 World Championship live event has been canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak. In response, Rocket League developer Psyonix decided to increase the prize pool of the Regional Championships by US$250,000. The North American and European regions will receive an additional US$100,000. While the South American and Oceanic regions will gain a US$25,000 increase.


Rocket League World Championship

Rocket League Season 9 World Championship, scheduled to be held in Dallas, Texas from April 24-26 has been canceled over concerns about the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak in the United States.


Tokyo Tekken Masters

The Tokyo Tekken Masters was set to be the first stop on the Tekken World Tour and was scheduled to be played on April 4-5. Instead, the event will be played on a later date.


Apex Legends Global Series Major 1

The Apex Legends Global Series Major 1 was set to take place on March 13-15 in Arlington, Texas and was the first of 12 live global events for the game’s esports circuit.

The tournament was going to include 60 teams vying for a cut of a US$500,000 prize pool. With the ALGS Major 1 postponed, the series is going to proceed with its second online tournament of the season on March 21 and March 23.


LEC Spring Finals

The LEC Spring Finals was set to be hosted in Budapest, Hungary on April 25-26 has been canceled due to safety concerns. Instead, the Finals will take place at the LEC studio in Berlin where the league is currently being played.
