Faker just doesn’t stop innovating — this time with his very own Viego build.
When the League of Legends Ruined King first debuted, Riot Games revealed that one of the key design elements is making sure he benefits from his own in-game item, Blade of the Ruined King.
Professional and solo queue players defaulted to Kraken Slayer as Viego’s Mythic item, and Blade of the Ruined King as their first Legendary item. Together, they synergize very well, dealing true damage and percent health damage.

Faker’s Viego build as seen in his solo queue match history
The problem with the default Viego build is that he ends up being very squishy, which is problematic for a champion that wants to consistently take short trades and build up Conqueror stacks.
Originally released to be a jungler, he is more frequently played in mid lane, and currently holds a 51.38% win rate in mid in high ELO solo queue according to U.GG.
Since his primary weakness is being burst down by mages or other AD assassins, T1 superstar Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok started pioneering a new build that solves this problem.
Picking up Viego six days ago, Faker bought Kraken Slayer on jungle Viego and won, but has since only played him mid.
Using Viego’s conventional rune setup, with Conqueror as his keystone and Resolve in the secondary tree, Faker has been rushing Immortal Shieldbow every single game.
I mean, isn’t Viego immortal anyway?
As a lot of AD champions have resurfaced in the meta, Faker then buys Warden’s Mail, but doesn’t upgrade it. His second completed Legendary item is usually Black Cleaver or Guardian’s Angel.
Holding an impressive 67% win rate in solo queue, will we see Faker’s unique Viego build in LCK Summer?
Faker’s Viego build is catching on
While LEC players like Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther and Martin “Wunder” Nordahl Hansen continue to go for Viego’s conventional build path, LCK mid laners have taken notice of Faker’s innovation.
Hanwha Life Esports’ Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon and Gen.G’s Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong have been spotted experimenting with Immortal Shieldbow and defensive armor items.
