DWG KIA Ghost had an MVP performance on Day 3 of the 2021 League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) after a thrilling match between DWG KIA and DetonatioN FocusMe.
Though DFM was poised to win with an incredible early game lead, DWG KIA delivered a last-minute ace to claim their third win in MSI Group C.
DWG KIA’s comeback was a moment of truth for Ghost
In the final clash against DetonatioN FocusMe, DWG KIA AD carry Jang “Ghost” Yong-jun told ONE Esports that it felt like it was now or never for the squad to turn things around.
“We still believed that we were the better team,” said Ghost. “If they make a mistake and we were focused when they did, we would be able to come back.”
Even with DetonatioN FocusMe storming DWG KIA’s base for the final inhibitor turret, Ghost and his teammates patiently stood their ground as the last line of defense.
Once DetonatioN FocusMe’s Mun “Steal” Geon-yeong on Udyr initiated with a risky flash, DWG KIA immediately capitalized on the miscalculated play. As a result, Ghost grabbed a triple kill and the winning ace.
What DWG KIA Ghost thinks of coach kkOma
After becoming the 2020 World champions, DWG KIA aimed to keep their winning standard by bringing in Kim “kkOma” Jeong-gyun as its newest head coach.
As the coach who led T1 to three World championships, kkOma’s LCK homecoming was accompanied by high expectations. At the end of Spring 2021, kkOma delivered with a dominant 16-2 regular season record and DWG KIA’s second LCK championship.
Achieving such success in a short amount of time, DWG KIA Ghost speaks about what makes kkOma a cut above the rest.
“He was a pro himself before, and I think that gives him the eye of a pro when looking at the game,” said Ghost. “He’s very comprehensive in his feedback and his detailed instructions on how to play helps me out a lot.”

Koreans like to surrender, DWG KIA Ghost explains
With DWG KIA scrimming in EU servers in preparation for MSI, teammate Heo “ShowMaker” Su noted that players blamed each other a lot, and refused to surrender.
Viewing South Korea’s solo queue ranked game, many international fans had already formed the opinion that Korean players like to surrender once the opponent team snowballs.
DWG KIA Ghost was able to provide some context on why the KR region has this in-game habit of surrendering.
“We basically all know each other in Challenger,” said Ghost. “If it comes to a point where we can’t turn things around against opponents who we know to be good, we tend to surrender.”
In light of the whole discussion, Ghost agrees that EU players do not surrender too often, and believes that it’s something to respect and learn from them.
DWG KIA Ghost’s bucket list for MSI
Aside from grinding out games and reading the webtoon “Tower of God”, which he highly recommends, DWG KIA Ghost is looking forward to experiencing more of Iceland.
“The scenery is beautiful in Iceland whether it’s night or day,” commented Ghost. “If I ever do get the free time, I really want to visit the local hot springs because I heard they’re famous for it.”
Upon hearing about MAD Lions’ Matyáš “Carzzy” Orság’s interest in hangul and wanting to be friends with him, Ghost was very open to meeting the Czech bot laner during MSI.
“Thank you, and I hope to see you in the next stage!” said Ghost.
DWG KIA currently leads Group C of MSI with a 3-0 record and will face Cloud9 on May 11 at 9 p.m. GMT+8.
