VCT Stage 1 Masters Reykjavik 2022 has not gone quite as expected. Underdogs XERXIA Esports pulled off their second upset against North American juggernaut OpTic Gaming, while tournament favorites Fnatic are going home after losses to Ninjas in Pyjamas and Zeta Division.
Team Liquid, who were invited in place of FunPlus Phoenix, became the first team to secure their spot in the playoffs, despite originally failing to even make it to the event. Korean powerhouse DRX was close behind, following dominant showings against Zeta Division and NIP.
In the meantime, regional top seeds The Guard, G2 Esports, Paper Rex, and LOUD are already waiting in the playoffs.
