3. Majors now provide more DPC points than Regional Leagues
In the 2021 DPC season, each Regional League rewarded 500 points to the first-place finishers, the same amount that winners of the Dota 2 Majors received.
Valve has revamped how points are distributed in order to place more emphasis on how teams perform on The International stage, and less value on Regional Leagues.
PLACEMENT | 2021 DPC POINTS ALLOCATION | 2022 DPC POINTS ALLOCATION |
1st | 500 | 300/400/500 |
2nd | 300 | 180/240/300 |
3rd | 200 | 120/160/200 |
4th | 100 | 60/80/100 |
5th | 50 | 30/40/50 |
6th | 0 | 0 |
7th | 0 | 0 |
8th | 0 | 0 |
Here is how points rewarded at Majors have changed for the upcoming Dota 2 season.
PLACEMENT | 2021 DPC POINTS ALLOCATION | 2022 DPC POINTS ALLOCATION |
1st | 500 | 400/500/600 |
2nd | 450 | 350/450/550 |
3rd | 400 | 300/400/500 |
4th | 350 | 250/350/450 |
5th | 300 | 200/300/400 |
6th | 300 | 200/300/400 |
7th | 200 | 100/200/300 |
8th | 200 | 100/200/300 |
2. The DPC Tours will award an increasing amount of points per tour
A Dota 2 Tour consists of the Regional League and its corresponding Major. In the 2021 seasons, each Regional League and Major awarded the same amount of points.
This meant that teams who performed well by the end of the first Major would have secured their TI10 slot, and could skip the rest of the DPC season if they wanted to.
Team Secret’s CEO John Yao spoke about this issue during the 2021 Dota 2 DPC season, “Once you qualify for TI, I would say the motivation drops off significantly.”
The revamped points distribution means that teams will have to perform well in at least the first two Tours in order to guarantee a spot at TI11, for an eighth-place finish in the third Major will award as many points as winning the first Major.
1. There will be three Dota 2 Majors this season
Unlike the 2021 DPC seasons which featured two Majors, the ONE Esports Singapore Major and WePlay AniMajor, the upcoming Dota 2 DPC season will have three Majors, providing Dota 2 fans with plenty of action throughout the year.
Valve has also announced that there will be no Open Qualifiers for TI11. The top twelve performing teams will earn a direct invite to TI11. The best remaining best teams in each region will then compete in a last chance regional qualifier for a slot at TI11.
The Dota 2 DPC season for 2022 officially kicks off on November 29. Dota 2 fans can find all the changes on Valve’s official website.
