There’s no doubt that if you’re playing the new Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, you’re not wanting to get your hands on the legendary Master Sword.
This historic item is one of, if not the most powerful items in TOTK. However, it’s not exactly the easiest weapon to come by. In this article, we’ll tell you the best way to add it to your arsenal.

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom’s Master Sword is in an odd place
So, let’s start with the more difficult part. In order to get it, you’ll need to pull it from the head of the Light Dragon. Yes, that means you’ll have to not only find out where the dragon is but also manage to get atop its head.
The Light Dragon has a pretty wide area of the map that it flies around, so locating it can be a bit tedious. If you spot a dragon and aren’t sure if it’s the right one, you’ll want to see if you notice a yellow and blue flow emanating from its head. That glow is the Master Sword, and that means you’ve found it!
The easiest way to then access the dragon like a giant airship is to launch yourself from the nearest Skyview tower you can find. No tower? Well then, the next best option is using Recall on any falling rocks you see.
Now that you’ve made it onto the Light Dragon, the deed can’t be completed unless you have two full stamina bars. It’s important to note that you can’t temporarily boost your stamina bar to achieve this. It has to be the real deal.
And that should do it! If you have the stamina to pull the sword from the dragon once you’ve made your way onto it, you will be wielding the most powerful weapon in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.
And don’t forget you can pick up one of two quests to work toward getting the sword as well. Either of the following two quests will put you on the path and help mark it on your map:
- Recovering the Hero’s Sword quest
- The Dragon’s Tears quest
